Questions
What is the best website builder for a small business?
For a service business that wants a brochure site with booking and a blog, Squarespace, Wix and WordPress.com are the field; for a design-led site Webflow, Framer and Showit; for a site generated from a description, Durable, 10Web and Hostinger. If you already run WordPress, the question is hosting (Kinsta, WP Engine, SiteGround, Bluehost, Cloudways). The quiz asks what you are building and how hands-on you want to be, then compares at your own numbers.
How much does a website cost a month?
From nothing (Carrd, Framer, Webflow, WordPress.com and Wix all publish a free tier, with their branding on it) to $16 to $50 a month for a builder plan on a custom domain, and $25 to $100 a month for managed WordPress hosting. Every builder charges per site, so a second site is a second subscription. Watch the renewal price on the hosts: the first-year figure is often half the real one, and both are quoted here.
Should I use a website builder or WordPress?
A builder is one bill, no updates to run and a fixed set of features. WordPress is free software on hosting you pay for, with any plugin and any developer available, and the updates, backups and security are yours or your host's. For a five-page service business site a builder is usually less work; for a site that will grow into a shop, a membership or a custom integration, WordPress keeps the door open.
Do these platforms offer a free trial?
Squarespace, Hostinger Website Builder, Duda, Cloudways, 10Web and Carrd give you 14. Carrd also run a permanently free tier, so a short trial is less of a constraint there. The rest are demo-led with neither, which is worth knowing before you get attached to one.
Are these affiliate links?
Some of them, and it is marked clearly on every recommendation. It does not change what the quiz returns. Where two platforms score within a few points of each other the cheaper one wins, and several of the platforms recommended here pay nothing at all.
Who is behind this?
Dave Crawford. He builds operations and automation systems for small service businesses, which means he has spent a lot of time inside tools like these with real clients rather than reading their marketing pages. The prices here are checked against each company's own pricing page and rechecked weekly.
