Questions
What is the best task management software for a small team?
For a team running projects with deadlines, Asana, ClickUp, monday, Wrike, Teamwork and Zoho Projects are the field; for a lighter list-and-board tool, Trello, Todoist and MeisterTask; if the wiki and the work should live together, Notion, Airtable and Coda; Basecamp is the flat-priced outlier. The quiz asks who the work is for and how you like to see it, then compares at your team size.
How much does task management software cost?
From nothing (Asana, Trello, ClickUp, Notion, Todoist, Airtable, Wrike, Linear and more publish a free tier, usually capped by users or features) to $8 to $15 per user a month on the plans a small team buys, and $25 to $30 per user for the business tiers. Basecamp is flat. Nearly everyone charges per user, so the order changes as the team grows.
Is the free plan enough for a small team?
Often, up to the cap: Asana's free tier caps collaborators, Trello caps boards per workspace, Notion caps the block history and guests, ClickUp caps storage and some views. The product pages list each cap, and the quiz tells you where your team size crosses it.
Do these platforms offer a free trial?
Basecamp and Smartsheet give you 30 days, in most cases with no card required. Trello, monday work management, Todoist, Airtable, Wrike, Teamwork.com, MeisterTask, Nifty and Zoho Projects give you 14. The rest are demo-led with neither, which is worth knowing before you get attached to one.
Are these affiliate links?
Some of them, and it is marked clearly on every recommendation. It does not change what the quiz returns. Where two platforms score within a few points of each other the cheaper one wins, and several of the platforms recommended here pay nothing at all.
Who is behind this?
Dave Crawford. He builds operations and automation systems for small service businesses, which means he has spent a lot of time inside tools like these with real clients rather than reading their marketing pages. The prices here are checked against each company's own pricing page and rechecked weekly.
