Questions
What is the best email marketing software for a small business?
It depends on what you send. A newsletter people subscribe to points at Kit, beehiiv or Substack; nurturing leads for a service business at Mailchimp, MailerLite, Brevo or AWeber; a store's email at Klaviyo, Omnisend or Drip; and if you want the CRM and funnels in the same place, ActiveCampaign, Keap or Systeme.io. The quiz asks what you send first, then compares at your own list size.
How much does email marketing software cost?
From nothing (Mailchimp, MailerLite, Brevo, Kit, beehiiv, Omnisend, EmailOctopus and Systeme.io all publish a free tier, capped by contacts or sends) to $20 to $60 a month at 5,000 contacts, and several hundred a month at 100,000. The number that moves the bill is contacts: a platform priced by sends (Brevo) or flat (Flodesk) stays level as the list grows and one priced by contacts does not. Every price here is quoted at your own list size.
Which platforms charge by contacts, and which do not?
Mailchimp, Kit, Klaviyo, MailerLite, beehiiv, Constant Contact, AWeber, GetResponse, Omnisend, Drip, Moosend, Campaign Monitor, EmailOctopus, ActiveCampaign and Keap price by contacts or subscribers. Brevo prices by emails sent with unlimited contacts. Flodesk is flat. Substack charges nothing monthly and takes 10% of paid subscriptions. Each product page says which.
Do these platforms offer a free trial?
Constant Contact, Moosend and Campaign Monitor give you 30 days, in most cases with no card required. Mailchimp, Kit, MailerLite, beehiiv, AWeber, GetResponse, Flodesk, ActiveCampaign and Keap give you 14. GetResponse, Omnisend, Flodesk and Systeme.io also run a permanently free tier, so a short trial is less of a constraint there. The rest are demo-led with neither, which is worth knowing before you get attached to one.
Are these affiliate links?
Some of them, and it is marked clearly on every recommendation. It does not change what the quiz returns. Where two platforms score within a few points of each other the cheaper one wins, and several of the platforms recommended here pay nothing at all.
Who is behind this?
Dave Crawford. He builds operations and automation systems for small service businesses, which means he has spent a lot of time inside tools like these with real clients rather than reading their marketing pages. The prices here are checked against each company's own pricing page and rechecked weekly.
