Coach Catalyst vs ABC Trainerize

Priced at four roster sizes, the features checked against both pricing pages, and my own verdict on each.

Take Coach Catalyst if you want habits and behaviour change. Take ABC Trainerize if you want general online 1:1 coaching and a route up to gym or studio management. Coach Catalyst is cheaper at every size we price.

What each one actually costs

The real monthly figure at four roster sizes with the add-ons each platform forces on you included, from the same engine the shortlist quiz uses. The cheaper of the two is marked on every row.

What is actually different

  • Coach Catalyst lists selling courses where ABC Trainerize does not, which is their own wording rather than something we verified.
  • ABC Trainerize does appointment booking, client food logging, your own app in the stores, sellable packages and taking payments, and Coach Catalyst does not. We checked both against their pricing pages.
  • ABC Trainerize lists automations, client check-ins, an exercise library, body metrics and video form checks where Coach Catalyst does not, which is their own wording rather than something we verified.

I have used both

Coach Catalyst

A standout coaching app built by working personal trainers, with exceptional support, extensive integrations, and a built-in community feature that removes the need for Facebook groups.

  • Offers a live onboarding call with their team to help you set up, which no other app provides. 4:23
  • Built-in community feature means clients stay in one app rather than getting distracted on Facebook groups. 7:51
  • More integrations than any other coaching software, including Fitbit, Garmin, Apple Health, and nutrition trackers. 11:14
  • I had no criticisms of it.

ABC Trainerize

A robust, feature-rich platform that I use personally as a client and my coach has stuck with for five years.

  • Having training templates is really good if you're just getting started, plus the workout builder is helpful. 1:38
  • It gives you exercise videos so you don't have to record them yourself. 1:45
  • I actually really like this in the gym: I open the app, start my session, log my reps and weights, and see how I'm progressing each week. 7:03
  • The messaging service is a little bit clunky, not that intuitive, and not like WhatsApp or iMessage. 4:56
  • A little noisy when you sign in; I do think a lot of these apps are quite heavy on their data and dashboards. 4:28
  • Getting this set up will take time because creating all the template programs is a bit time-consuming to start with. 6:36
