ABC Trainerize vs TrueCoach

Priced at four roster sizes, the features checked against both pricing pages, and my own verdict on each.

Take ABC Trainerize if you want general online 1:1 coaching and a route up to gym or studio management. Take TrueCoach if you want general online 1:1 coaching and the fastest programme builder. TrueCoach is cheaper on a small roster and ABC Trainerize is cheaper by 25 clients, so the answer changes with your size.

What each one actually costs

The real monthly figure at four roster sizes with the add-ons each platform forces on you included, from the same engine the shortlist quiz uses. The cheaper of the two is marked on every row.

ABC TrainerizeTrueCoachDifference
10 clients$135$57.99$77.01
25 clients$135$136.99$1.99
50 clients$135$136.99$1.99
100 clients$275$136.99$138.01

What is actually different

  • ABC Trainerize does appointment booking, client food logging, group programmes, your own app in the stores and sellable packages, and TrueCoach does not. We checked both against their pricing pages.
  • ABC Trainerize lists client check-ins, intake forms and leaderboards where TrueCoach does not, which is their own wording rather than something we verified.
  • TrueCoach lists group chat where ABC Trainerize does not, which is their own wording rather than something we verified.

I have used both

ABC Trainerize

A robust, feature-rich platform that I use personally as a client and my coach has stuck with for five years.

  • Having training templates is really good if you're just getting started, plus the workout builder is helpful. 1:38
  • It gives you exercise videos so you don't have to record them yourself. 1:45
  • I actually really like this in the gym: I open the app, start my session, log my reps and weights, and see how I'm progressing each week. 7:03
  • The messaging service is a little bit clunky, not that intuitive, and not like WhatsApp or iMessage. 4:56
  • A little noisy when you sign in; I do think a lot of these apps are quite heavy on their data and dashboards. 4:28
  • Getting this set up will take time because creating all the template programs is a bit time-consuming to start with. 6:36

TrueCoach

A robust system with good features for workout building, messaging and payments, though the dashboard can feel noisy and busy.

  • Workout builder lets you create training programs for online clients. 1:25
  • Access to over 1,200 exercise videos saves time if you haven't made your own. 1:32
  • Real-time messaging keeps client conversations on one platform instead of scattered across WhatsApp, email and Messenger. 1:43
  • The dashboard feed is noisy and confusing at first look. 4:22
  • The programming view shows a lot of information on one page, making it feel technical and busy. 6:21
  • No Zapier access, so you cannot connect it to other apps or automate workflows. 10:18

Neither, or not sure?

A head to head only helps once you have picked the two. The shortlist asks 9 questions about your own roster and gives you four picks priced at your client count, from all 26.
